Hi, im Kelly and welcome to Tiny Steps. Therapeutic play is non directive, this means your child leads their sessions and they will choose what and how to play in the therapy room. The boundaries are set clearly with your child before they start sessions so they understand how we stay safe in sessions. They are free to chose resources in an unrestricted way. The resources available in the therapy room include
“A different child to 6 months ago since seeing Kelly, I have my child back!”.
Parent of child aged 10
“The work Kelly has completed has been invaluable to our pupils who have had her for support.
Kelly has brought knowledge to our staff and always conducted herself in a professional manner. I would recommend Kelly without hesitation”.
Local Head Teacher
“Thank you so much for how you have helped me through my worries, you are so kind and funny, you are the best person in the world”.
Child, Aged 9
“We were so pleased to have found Kelly at Tiny Steps. Her therapeutic sessions have helped our anxious and nervous little boy to develop his confidence and turn his fears into joyful experiences”.
Parents
“Kelly worked very closely with our son, at GOSH, when he had a transplant. She then worked with him again on many occasions, over the next year, when he was an inpatient".
Parent
“I look forward to every session having time out with you… and beating you at Uno Cards!”
Client aged 7 years old
“Our son started attending Tiny steps after struggling with worries about germs and becoming very anxious. He built a great relationship with Kelly and looked forward to his sessions. He has benefited enormously and is now a more confident little boy who is now able to talk about his feelings and focus on having fun!”.
Parent of client
"Our child has responded very well to the sessions with Kelly, we have noticed a great improvement and she now feels more confident to discuss and control her emotions. The approach by Kelly helped her to settle well and gave her confidence in dealing with certain situations.
The improvement we've noticed gives us great confidence that she can continue to improve her emotional well-being and use the techniques she has learnt by attending these sessions. Thank you"
Parent of child
"Thank you for being here and listening to me. I appreciate it a lot. I enjoyed playing the marble connection game, the memory game and painting therapy/drawing. Thank you for being here for me".
Child aged 10
Just a little message to say thankyou so much for my daughters Sessions, she has shown great progress since completing her course and she is now acknowledging her emotions and using the grounding techniques to self regulate. Thankyou so much for the advice and ideas that I can use to help her too it's really helped for her to express herself more. She had grown a really strong bond with you and looked forward to her weekly sessions and wishes she could keep coming. I will definitely be recommending you! Keep being amazing at doing what you do 😊💖
Parent of child
"He has been doing really well since the end of his sessions with you and today he came home with an award which just shows how far he has come! School had commented before the end of last term how much of an improvement he’s made - and we’ve had very few contacts with school relating to his behaviour through the whole of year 5.
He has gone into year 6 much happier with much better self awareness and I genuinely believe your sessions were a massive factor in this!
Thank you for hard work - you have made such a difference to our child's life and we are very grateful!".
"My child has loved attending play therapy with Kelly, I often tell people she is a miracle worker!"

What happens in sessions?
The first initial telephone consultation is free. As part of the referral process, I will ask you to complete a Strengths and Difficulties questionnaire regarding your child. I will use this to inform my practise before starting with your child. I will then ask you to complete this around session 8, we will then have a review discussion looking at your child's progress whilst maintaining client confidentiality. We will also set some realistic hopes & goals for your child. I will discuss my practise with a clinical supervisor regularly.
Your child will come to the their session once a week for 40 minutes, one to one with me.
I work child lead, meaning your child will lead the session. The child leads and the therapist follows. They will be able to choose from a wide range of resources and specific equipment chosen in order to help them to communicate their thoughts & feelings. Play is a natural child's way of learning and communicating, therapeutic play offers a safe environment in which a child has the freedom to express their emotions, solve problems and process significant events. All towards helping them to heal.
I will use mirroring, reflection, co-play, metaphors, questioning and tracking techniques in order to monitor your child progress throughout their therapeutic journey. The strategies used by the Kelly encourages your child to think, feel and say freely. She will not direct or interrupt a child's process, they will lead their sessions. Giving them a sense of independence and to support them to understand their feelings better.
